Industry Talk Series
In 2017 AUGA initiated a series of talks from professionals working in the geoscience industry. In 2017 we had talks from - Romeo Rodriguez (Exploration/Mining Geology) - Nathan Heazlewood (NZESP - NZ Emerging Spatial Professionals) - Virginie Lacrosse & Rachel Pickett (Tonkin and Taylor) - Ross Roberts (Auckland Council) In 2019 we hope to continue to provide opportunities for our members to network and hear more about potential career pathways. If you're interested in giving a talk, we'd love to hear from you! Please email us at [email protected] and we can arrange something. |
AUGA & Geography Association Networking
We have been focusing on building a strong sense of community within the AUGA and more broadly, particularly with the Geography Association (GA). Throughout 2017 we worked with the GA to hold a few sports matches, including football (GA won this 7-5) and dodgeball (AUGA won this 7-5)! Our first game of 2018 is on the 28th of March, where once again we will be facing off in a game of dodgeball - playing off for the UoA Geology vs Geography cup (yes - this actually exists and is on display on level 5!) The first annual School of Environment Ball was held in 2017, a collaborative event organised by the AUGA and GA. This was a great success and strengthened our relationship with the GA. |
Fortnightly Networking
AUGA members range from first year students all the way through to postgraduates, alumni and staff. By meeting fortnightly for casual drinks and networking we hope to build a sense of community across stages and between students of different year levels, as well as maintaining a great social atmosphere and having a bit of fun! |
